Slash recs summary 2007
By making this, it was found that there's a lot of links that I haven't checked yet.

January 2, 2007
If you want to start a new year with good stories with steaming hot sex scenes like I did, go read Outlaw's Stories. Or if you want to read some equally good, sexy, romantic, and angst-free stories, go read Paul Sung's Stories.

January 4, 2007
I just found Forbidden Fruit, a slash e-zine. The earlier issues are here.

January 5, 2007
The Top 6 of My Favorite Things in 2006.

January 17, 2007
[info]duskpeterson recced: Jesse Hajicek's The God Eaters, Parhelion's Hurrah for Hollywood series, and Ranger's Fleur de Lys.

Current fics I'm reading:
Hallowed be Thy Name by Mars Demo
I was perfectly happy with my life, that is, until my mother sent me to counseling at my church... let me be the first to tell you, I am not gay.
What I Didn't Know by Anego
Highschool. A place filled with various cliques, rumors, and characters. Two different guys find they're rather similar, and break a few unwritten boundaries in school during the process.
Skin Deep by Anego
BeautyandtheBeast twist. Coredan is a young boy who adores his twin sister, and would do anything for her. But when the day comes that he pays too heavy a price, he meets Prince Londel- whos life is darker than expected.
Out of Luck by d'Neronique
No one wants something more than if they can’t have it. That’s why I believe the best way to get guys is to pretend you’re straight – and you had better believe it works like a charm.
Prop Gentleman by I'll Try Again
Pageantry is a closeknit business, where everybody knows everybody, and Don knows it all. But when the 'onetobeat' brings a boyfriend with fifties flare as her escort, Don finds he just can't keep his eyes off him...
Anything by Vengeful Black Dreamz
When Kieran’s village is attacked, he is forced to exchange himself for his sister. He finds that the attacking evil, yet terribly handsome, tyrant has more interest in him then he could have ever imagined.
In Places Least Expected and the sequel, From Italy, with Love by Princess Max
Carmine could hardly be considered innocent. But that was old news, anyway.

February 20, 2007
[info]ackonrad recced this fic. Her favorite fics on FP are here.
[info]tenderyoungalex recced Scribe, Amasour, JM Synder, and Thera.

February 23, 2007
Go read Edward M. Sledge or [info]katicalocke's Once a Slave and Once a Slave II: Magewise. It's really, really good. I can't stop reading it, and when I did stop because I must sleep, the story haunted my sleep. Don't get discouraged by the summary, because the story is really not simple and it's so captivating. And the UST..... well, it's hot and plentiful enough to cook 5 course meal.

February 26, 2007
Can you believe that The Bridge I Crossed is finished? OMFG! *jumping with joy* it's one of my favourite SasuNaru fic. One of the best, too.
For you who want a great read, you can try this one as an original slash since this fic is an AU.

March 6, 2007
So I found this site through [info]origslash_news. The site contains Paul Sung’s stories, one of my favourite authors, so I clicked on it. So far, the site only has the works of four authors, including Paul Sung. Since I’ve read all of Paul Sung’s stories, I tried for the other complete story that I haven’t read.
Turned out that Tail of the Tiger by Morgenfryd is another jewel that I found by accident. It’s a real people / celebrity slash, between one of N’Sync members and an original male character. To tell you the truth, real people / celebrity slash is not my thing, but I’m always willing to try (like I tried to read a story between Nick Carter from Backstreet Boy with a member of X-Men a few years ago, and yes, I like that one). And this time I wasn’t disappointed.
I don’t know if it’s because the author is Danish or it’s just his good skill, but I extremely enjoy the story. It’s fresh, interesting, and captivating. It doesn’t gush out celebrity worship, or angst, or sickeningly sugary romance. It’s a real gay story, between two real and equal men. The characters are strong and deep, and the romance flows beautifully because the sex isn’t rushed.

March 13, 2007
I'm reading Turn of Events by T-Storm. Still on chapter 5, but it's really good, that I can't help but share it with you ^^

March 16, 2007
Ryan Keith wrote One Life, a beautiful, perfect story with a fairy tale ending, if only you stop reading it right after the wedding. OMFG!!! I know life is not a fairy tale, I also know that life isn’t fair, but how could the author write such a tragedy? If I didn’t read it at work, I’d have cried buckets!

March 20, 2007
I am reading Heaven’s Just a Sin Away. From 7 chapters out of 30, I found that it’s quite interesting. The writing is a bit rough, but I can disregard that as long as it can captures my interest.

March 23, 2007
That's Life.

March 28, 2007
[info]justslashit found a fic about a vampire named Val (Valentine) and he meets a club bouncer/ bartender who saves his life, they become friends, later it turns out the friend is an immortal, they hook up, much angst involved, huge long story....
Catherine gave me a multi-fandom recs.
Two fics with two boys and one girl:
Living in Surreality
Oak Meadow was a quiet place, pep rallies on Friday afternoon followed by the football game that night. Matt and Valerie grew up, knowing that one day they would be married and their children would attend the same schools they had. That was until, Jacob, their new neighbor moved in across the street and their perfect future fell apart. Together the three of them would fight the same battle over which was greater, fear or love.
I Think I Better Leave Right Now and the alternative ending. [Naruto fanfic, SasuNaru]
A very awesome angsty romance fic. I shed a few tears reading this fic, but the love story is so very, very beautiful, especially with the alternative happy ending. OMG, I really love fic where one of them is going to marry a woman he doesn’t love (for the sake of family name or whatever), but they actually still love each other very much, while people around them don’t know that they’re once lovers. The jealousy, oh gawd…., and the UST, and of course the angstiness from all of it.

April 3, 2007
Two fics that I enjoyed this week:
The Raw and the Cooked
Jackson is appalled at the wild man who emerges from the forest with wild mushrooms and bitter greens: but Marek is really quite tame.
The Rubaiyyat of Omar Camacho
Omar is all words, and even these he likes to keep at a safe distance. Robert is a man of action, even as a boy. In spite of mutual attraction, it takes a while to get on the same page.

April 12, 2007
Two stories that have a main character in them who is in a wheelchair for one reason or another: Just Hit "Send" by Grasshopper and Love in a Chair or here by Altimexis (reviewed by [info]lobo_solitario here).
A Final Fantasy VIII (Seifer/Squall) fanfiction where Seifer was the jock, and Squall was the loner/geeky type, but he sticks up for himself and it's not at all like the other high school fics in that fandom.
[info]sunnyfunshine recced Matthew Haldeman Time and IOMFATS.
[info]originalpuck dropped a link to The Spindle Production.
[info]falconer007 told about jock/nerd story, Losing to Win (Summary by Tarheelwriter: When Josh O'Hara comes into Steve Edison's life, thoughts and feelings that Steve never, ever had before start to creep into his mind. Josh is a short, scrawny boy, with red short hair, and couldn't have weighed more than 110lbs. He always kept to himself and was, as has been told to Steve, a complete nerd and probably the valedictorian of the class. Steve, on the other hand is all jock and starting pitcher for the baseball team. Steve's problem is physics. He just doesn't understand it, but he needs to pass it to play ball. His physics teacher tells him he needs a tutor. So Josh comes into Steve's life and things change forever. Read along and watch as realization sets in.)

These fics can be read as original slash if you don't know about the fandom (aka The Professionals): Arabian Nights by Pamela Rose (AU non CI5, historical), Waiting to Fall by Rob (AU CI5), The Third Friday of October by Dana Austin Marsh.

May 22, 2007
Yesterday I read Waiting to Fall, a 2082K Professionals novel. It’s so satisfying to read an excellent novel length story from the very beginning to the end. There’re some problems that made me grit my teeth in frustration because the solutions to those problems are so simple, yet the characters didn’t seem to grasp it until the last few chapters. But if I thought about it more, it’s the right thing that the author did. Because it made the characters more real, because in real world, those are the things we usually do. The repeated mistakes, the problems that we, as readers, as outsiders, spot so easily, that we think are so simple to solve, are actually things that we can’t realize, can’t rectify, can’t solve so easily in the real life. Because we are human, with all the limitations and the imperfections that we’re born with.
But as human, we can also try to be better, to jump past the limitations, to fix the imperfections. The struggle to do all those things is what we call life. And in this case, the hard life the couple must endure is certainly worth it, for they finally get their happy ending.

May 23, 2007
The Third Friday of October by Dana Austin Marsh (a Professionals fanfic)
I can’t honestly say that I love every part of this fic, but I can certainly say that this is an excellent fic, very impressive, and definitely unforgettable. I don’t have any word to describe the story, but I think these quotes, which has been floating in my mind since I read the story, will give some insight about this story.
"There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven:
a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build,
a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance,
a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain,
a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away,
a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak,
a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace.
What does the worker gain from his toil? I have seen the burden God has laid on men. He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end. I know that there is nothing better for men than to be happy and do good while they live. That everyone may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all his toil—this is the gift of God. I know that everything God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it. God does it so that men will revere him.
Whatever is has already been, and what will be has been before; and God will call the past to account.
And I saw something else under the sun:
In the place of judgment—wickedness was there, in the place of justice—wickedness was there.
I thought in my heart, "God will bring to judgment both the righteous and the wicked, for there will be a time for every activity, a time for every deed."
(Ecclesiastes 3: 1-17)
"the Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away." (Job 1: 21)
"I'd like to meet a nice-looking guy...not especially handsome, because I wouldn't want other guys looking at him to make me jealous. He'd have an amiable occupation...not a fancy, rich career...something along the line of a school teacher. I'd've liked him to be married once, to get women out of his system...and I'd like him to come home and find I'd made him a big dinner and then the two of us would wash and dry the dishes and go into the living room and listen to some good music, preferably Broadway show tunes, watch something worthwhile on PBS television and sit on the couch holding hands. Then, maybe around ten o'clock in the evening, we'd go into the bathroom and take a nice long, hot shower together and we'd leave our clothes off to get into bed and we would face each other and hold one another as long as it took for me to feel safe, secure, and wanted, just once in my life." (“Fred”, in If Love Were All by Ritch Christopher)
Catherine recced a From Eroica, with Love fanfic, House of Cards and spoiled it here.

May 24, 2007
If Love Were All by Ritch Christopher is a crazy story, it’s like a soap opera, not technically good but amusing. And I just love the all over craziness of it. Spoilers are here.

May 30, 2007
I like this fic, Left in the Middle by Pfeiffer, but I don’t like the ending, even if it can be called a happy ending. Why? Because I’m so prideful that my pride even has a big play influencing my liking of something or someone.
In this fic, the couple got back together because one of them finally understood the line from Nicholas Sparks’ The Wedding, “It contends that it is possible for two people to fall in love with each other again despite years of disappointments between them.” Well, I can understand it, too, if only those years of disappointments were like Bodie’s and Doyle’s years in The Tangled Web.

June 14, 2007
Alien Culture by Rio Mack has been finally updated. This is a very sizzling hot, sexy PWP. Highlighting all the good/better aspects of being gay, it’s like a very convincing bible to gather and then turn straight men into gay men ^^
Breaking the Mirror by AMV is a fic that I’ve just found. It’s about a boy who was abused by his father and molested by his father’s friend, and found solace in his virulent, cold neighbor. I like the slow pace, and the angst almost made my cry.
In Theory by Sirivinda is a fic that I love so much. It’s so cute, and sweet, and gave me bubbly warm feeling when I read it. It’s about a straight guy who realized that he’s not that straight. Thankfully, he took the smart action to stir himself to the right gay way ^^ What I love in this fic is the cuddles, the small fights, and the sulking.
Perfect Uncle by Xanthofile. One word: Incest. Between uncle and nephew. Turns me on to no end *grins*
Stupid Post It Notes by Dirty-Angel-Toes has reached a surprising, bloody climax. This is a long story, and most of the time it frustrated me so much. But, it’s also like a drug, once you taste it, you get addicted to it.
The History of Southbrook Academy by America’s Dream is my new love of my life. A gay outcast blackmailed a cool, quiet jock to be his boyfriend. Surprisingly, the jock turned out to be a great, caring boyfriend. As their relationship grew and some interesting facts were revealed, we’ll find that maybe the gay outcast was not the only one with a crush.

June 22, 2007
Yesterday I read one of the most romantic stories I've ever read. It's not an original slash, but a Professionals fanfic. If that makes you hesitate to read it, then don't! because it can be read as original slash and it's too beautiful to be ignored. Believe me, this story is more romantic than the Harlequin novels ^^

You Need Two to Mosh by Momoro
Tony's cute, clueless, and confused. Zach's also confused. Their friends don't understand why they haven't just gotten together already. Oh yeah, it's because Zach can't seem to stop messing around with Tony's mind. But two can play that game.
Five Moderately Easy Steps to Having a Life by Write-this-down
Liam mostly keeps to himself and spends his time painting, until one day a neighbor shows up with his mail. After that, it's only a matter of time until Liam finally gets the hang of actually having a life.

C.C. recced The Cronnex, summary is here, Carven, three Matthew Haldeman Time stories, and Matthew Haldeman Time's fanfiction site.
[info]falconer007 found the epilogue of WMSmoker Seeks Seclusion, suggested: Turn of Events by T-Storm and a WIP not updated regularly but it's totally worth the frustration, and heartily recommended The Human Condition that is the same kind of story as Ardveche's Educating Alex, but much more realistic; the relationships are deeper, there's more conflict and the characters more fleshed out.

Gift of the Ys by Jae Monroe is a tale of two men, on a prince paying the price for a wayward brother and one a King at times seemingly cold hearted and brutal but trying to look for all of his people. Here in the intricate give and take is religion, politics, and intrigue that lay against them as they work their way towards a relationship.
This is a really excellent story, although at first glance I doubted that I could stomach such old-age issue that usually roused much ire and disgust from me. But my fear was unfounded because the author wrote such a well-thought story, with strong and sound arguments from both parties that I, as a reader, myself couldn’t choose side like I usually did when I read this kind of story. With such intriguing, imaginative, and possibly, well-researched background and setting, witty and steadfast characters, and lack of sniveling and pathetic drama, this is a story that you must read. Spoiled here.

Since I'd already admitted that I was not in the mood to string coherent sentences, plus that someone pissed me off very very bad last night, I'm gonna vent my frustation here: I DIDN'T COOK FOR YOU, YOU ASS! HOW DARE YOU GOBBLED UP MY FOOD?! AND YOU *points to the other one*, YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND ME AT ALL! YOU MAKE ME MAD! I'M BETTER OFF WITH MY UNCLE AND MY AUNT!!!

I'm in no mood to string coherent sentences moreover to write something with something substantial. I'm also kinda preoccupied with Donuts aka Doumeki/Watanuki from XXXHolic. Anyone want to rec me good fics, preferably the long one, from that fandom?

And before you try to kill me, I'll tell you that I've been working on the original slash update. Have no fear!

Cookies and fics
I baked a bunch of oatmeal cookies on Friday night just because I read one of Amaretto's drabbles --where the character was baking cookies and two twin dragons tried to steal some-- and I thought why not trying to bake cookies. Yeah, I'm weird that way XD Just like a month ago when I suddenly craved mango after I read a fic where the character drank mango flavored slurpee. Since it's not the season yet, I ended up with bottled mango juice to satisfy my craving.

Then I spent the whole night and early morning to look for XXXHolic fanfics because I wanted to read Doumeki/Watanuki fics after reading XXXHolic vol. 3. I woke up at 2 pm, had a late lunch, and went back to bed to read the fics and roll around on the bed.

Looking for more Doumeki/Watanuki fics, I went browsing and by now, you should have known that I tend to wander around, so I got a bunch of fanfics from Full Metal Alchemist, Naruto, Death Note, and even, One Piece. I was tempted to click on some Harry Potter fics, but I managed to restraint myself ^^

Now, I'm off to read those fics. Ta ta!

Slash recs summary 2006
For me not to forget which site I haven't visited yet. For you not to search around my LJ for slash recs.
April 22, 2006
What I currently love are: Charms and Curses, Game Over, Mascara, Saturday Morning Cartoons, Where I'm Coming From, and The Wrong Way.

June 5, 2006
I read Absolute Convergence by John Yager. It has 100 chapters, about 2, 44 MB. As the author said, “This is a story of hope. It is the story of a young man coming of age in a culture of prejudice and misunderstanding. It is a story which deals with difficult and often disturbing issues but, none the less, issues which must be confronted in today's world.”
The beginning of this story is good, but in the middle, the author jumped too much from one time to another. I found the end disappointing, because the author didn’t really describe and explore the part when the protagonist found his true love. I don’t understand why the author made that part so simple, so easy, while he went to greater length in describing the protagonist’s first and second love. There are lots of important things, difficult and disturbing issues the author didn’t addressed or left unresolved. If only the author paid more attention and gave more details to the story, not just touching the surface of some issues mentioned in earlier parts, this story will be a really great one.
All in all, for me, this is a light (despite its size), not overly emotional, and with considerable lack of angst and liberal sprinkles of sex drama/romance story with a happy ending.

June 19, 2006
I read UCLA Jock Romance and My Exhibitionist Straight Brother by Andrew J.

July 9, 2006
Boy in the Band, Half Past Sunset, an Hour Before Dawn, and Next!!.
All of them are written by Ritch Christopher. They are cute, funny, sweet, sexy, and very entertaining. I couldn't stop laughing when I read them last night.
Ritch Christopher also writes lots of other stories that I haven't read yet, one of his famous stories is a saga, Briarwood.

July 23, 2006
Catherine gave three links: Parhelion Stories, Stefan Stories, and Andrej Koymasky Stories.
[info]naatz recced: Amaretto's ([info]maderr) stories, other random stuff from that clique, and cherry tomato yaoi, Forbidden Fruit by [info]tsaiko.

Derek Weiser wrote some romantic, sweet stories. They are really delightful to read, although the sex scenes sometimes are more than enough ^^ and the romance makes you a bit green with envy. The ones that I love most are By the Sea, Home Run, and To Serve and Protect.
For hot yet romantic stories of brotherly love (= incest) and gay love, you can check RimPig’s stories. Try read Marine Quandry and Paper Valentine, and if you like them, be glad that there are still so many fics of his you can read :)
And for hot, straight out porn with a dash of sex with underage boys XD, you can check Xdoorx’s stories. Gifts from a Friend, Moving Help, and Tip for the Lawn Boy will certainly stir you up and make your juices running wild ^^

September 15, 2006
This week I’ve started nicely with David Buffet’s Alpha Male. The fic is great, fresh with some smart yet entertaining ideas, although the actual plot deals with Dom/sub not only in physical but also psychological aspect. I definitely recommend this fic, despite the ambiguous ending ^^
The second fic from the same author that I currently read is Control and Kaos. The setting is in a high school, about two couples, one a gay senior jock with a feisty gay sophomore, and the other one between a straight senior jock who was advised to try boys after getting burned by his last girlfriend and a nice gay sophomore. After reading Alpha Male and being choked with Dom/sub relationship, it’s really nice and relaxing to read a sweet, simple love story between two cute, nice people who don’t have any hidden twist in their complex minds.

September 18, 2006
Read Draginacht's stories. Prince and Peasant is my first read, which leads me to his other stories.
Waiting for Love is kind of a fairy tale gay story. It's too good to be true, yet I enjoyed the light, sweet romance after being put under the dark spell of Christopher Rice's The Snow Garden.
David's Initiation is a three-parts story, and I cried when I read the end of the first part and two chapters of the second. I stopped reading it because it's already 2 am and I must go to work in the morning. The story actually is not angsty, it's full of happy moments between two people in love, but certain circumstance that couldn't be avoided ended their happy life and brought me to tears. Anyway, I can't wait to read the next chapter and find out if what will happen with the protagonist.

October 13, 2006
Tutoring Jerry is such a romantic story. It deals with high school love, very sweet, and poetic enough to melt your heart. And let’s not forget that the sex is HOT, HOT, HOT!

You know, I love reading mystery/thriller/suspense. Gay romance mystery is even better. BUT, I’m more willing to read The Administration Series ten times rather than reading The Magic in Your Touch, which is a gay romance mystery story, once. It’s not because The Magic in Your Touch is a bad story, because the mystery really piqued my curiosity, but the romance.... OMFG!! The romance is more than enough to make you diabetic! Can you say OVERDOSE OF ROMANCE? I stopped reading it halfway, even though I want to know the answers, because I just couldn’t stop gagging at the saccharine sweetness between two GROWN MEN!
Catherine gave a link to Angyl, Orithain, and Rina stories.

What's wrong with porn?
I know there is a reason why I read [info]rimpig's LJ although most of his entries are too political for me. This one is just brilliant and quoted directly from his entry.

What's wrong with porn?

I'm sure for many of you the answer to this question is-nothing. And I might agree with you except for some very disturbing things I've seen in porn recently. Now I have a confession to make. I watch almost every kind of porn there is. And yes that includes straight bisexual and lesbian, though very little lesbian. And I have noticed a disturbing situation especially in straight porn. It concerns cum. In gay films I see cum almost worshiped. It does not appear as if a guy shoots his load in or on another guy as some kind of punishment or a way to say you disgust me. But that is exactly what I see in straight porn. Guys who are supposed to be hot for females instead treat them like their little less than a toilet. I'm wondering what this says about straight males and how they really feel about women. I'm not saying the guys do this in real life, as they probably never get laid began in their life. But what one wonders is what kind of fantasies they have as they watch these films?

It has taken me a while to get to this point. The women in the women's movement have said for a long time that port is degrading to women. I can see that it is. The strange thing is, gay porn worships the male. Every part of him including (if you're watching the right film) his piss and his cum. Evidently, as researchers into relationships have discovered, gay relationships tend to be the most equal. And I guess our porn reflects that. So move over and hand me some lube, I've got this little film I want to show you...

Weekend readings
My plan went through. I spent last weekend at my hometown. The trip would’ve been great if not for the loud, nasty children riding the same car. Ugh, I really really hate that kind of family, acting like a rich, high-class family with pedigree while their children doesn’t have manners at all and the parents don’t do anything to curb those children. My hand itched badly to wring their necks.

Other than that, my weekend went nicely with my uncle, aunt, and childhood friend. We talked about everything and had a great time until I forgot that one of my plans was to get my bangs trimmed by my aunt.

Monday morning I went back to Jakarta, but I didn’t feel so good. I think I was exhausted, resulting in stomachache and headache. I went home early and the next day, I didn’t go to work. Fortunately, there’s nothing important scheduled/happened on that day.

As for my to-do list, well…. it was ignored because it turned out that I didn’t have any spare time to do those things. I only managed to read two Amaretto’s fics, Kidnapped and Vampires, Werewolves, & Hunters.

Kidnapped is just ordinary, although it has some possibilities that maybe would be the interesting points of the story, if only they’re constructed differently from the current plot.

Vampires, Werewolves, & Hunters is quite good. There are four related stories about vampires, vampire hunters, and werewolves. I don’t like the first one, but the second and the third are okay. And I definitely like the last one. A purebred alpha wolf that’s shy, awkward, and insecure in his human form and younger than his mate is just so cute XD Also, I’m repeating myself, but I can’t help but wishing that those ebooks with werewolf story are as good as this.

I also managed to start working on the original slash update yesterday. I think my updating spirit has started to stir. I certainly feel that tonight I’ll finish listing the fics from Gayauthors Efiction :)

Well, I'm back again with more of Code: Breaker. Looks like things are heating up at Sakura's school. The aftermath of the terrifying night is taking over her every thought. No one will believe her, and to make matters worse, Rei does nothing but smile amicably. When she confronts him again, it doesn't look like he's willing to let her spout his secret.....
